On March 22, CrossFit HQ released five individual floor plans for the online Quarterfinals, which will last from March 24 through April 24, 2022. The second stage of the 2022 CrossFit season challenges the top 10 percent of athletes worldwide from the 2022 CrossFit Open to perform all five workouts and submit them for review. Competing athletes are vying for the following ranks at the Quarterfinals conclusion to qualify for one of 10 Semifinals.
Scoring for the Quarterfinals is similar to the Open — athletes are awarded points equivalent to their rank once scores are finalized; therefore, the lower the score, the better. For clarity, whoever ranks first overall will score one point, second place will score two points, and so on. The higher an athlete finishes on the leaderboard, the lower their score. Here are the floor plans for the five Quarterfinal workouts below, courtesy of the CrossFit Games Instagram page:

Dissecting the Quarterfinals Floor Plans
While CrossFit HQ has not released what the five Quarterfinals workouts will be yet, the floor plans suggest some movements to prepare for. Let’s breakdown the key areas in each floor plan and the movements they suggest are incoming:
Workout one’s floor plan consists only of a pair of dumbbells and weight plates (or similar items) stacked to create a deficit. While the dumbbells might imply a wide range of possible movements, from dumbbell snatches to dumbbell thrusters and everything in between, the stacked weight plates are most likely handstand push-ups. There aren’t many other common movements in the sport that would require this particular setup, so assume that athletes will be inverted for some portion of workout one.
The second workout features gymnastic rings on one side of the field of play and a GHD machine on the other. Assuming there isn’t any bodyweight movement involved without these pieces of equipment, Workout Two will feature some kind of couplet of either toes-to-rings or ring muscle-ups and GHD sit-ups. The likelihood is this will be a workout with a total rep count for time, but it’s possible it could be an AMRAP. Regardless of the format, heart rate management will likely play a role here.
The third workout of the Quarterfinals seems pretty straightforward as to what it will involve — the most transparent of the floor plans in terms of what to expect. It requires four wall ball targets, implying wall balls will be performed at multiple spots in the half-circle with a rope at the nucleus. A rope is likely there for rope climbs, of course, but considering that it’s paired with wall balls, it might not allow the use of legs to ascend the climbs. While nothing is certain, athletes can likely expect their biceps to be blown up at the end of this one.
Workout Four’s floorplan consists of a barbell on a rack. That’s it. This is likely a strength-based workout, but the possibilities are relatively vast. A rack implies there will be either a back squat, front squat, or overhead press. Potentially a combination of all of them. Runners need not apply for Workout Four; it’s about strength here.
The final workout of the Quarterfinals appears as though it will be the most demanding of the five. The floor plan includes a rowing machine, a barbell, and a plyo box. Expect heart rates to be tested whenever a plyo box is involved in a workout. Likewise, the rowing machine is no joke in combination with a barbell. This could be a triplet of a barbell movement, a box jump, and rowing, or the rowing machine could be a buy-in. Alternatively, the rowing machine could follow a couplet on the barbell and the box. Those with imagination could probably develop near-infinite combinations of workouts with these implements, so assume athletes will sweat buckets.
