Eric Dewayne Robertson, 28, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 7, 2022, while playing basketball.
Born and raised in Huntsville, AL, Eric attended Huntsville City School System where he graduated from Lee High School. He continued his education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he played collegiate basketball and received his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Non Profit Management.
He continued his basketball career playing professionally with the Leicester Riders in the United Kingdom while obtaining his master’s degree in International Business.
Eric returned to Huntsville, Al., where he married his college sweetheart, Jerica.
They moved to Knoxville, in 2020, and welcomed the birth of their son, Luca.
Eric was currently teaching Spanish at Powell High School and served as a basketball coach at Grace Christian Academy.
He was a member of Bridge Church, Knoxville.
“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Hebrews 12: 1-2 HCSB.
Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents and by Jerica’s step-father, William Layne.
He is survived by his wife, Jerica and his son, Luca, both of Knoxville; mother, Regina Robertson, Huntsville, AL; father, Garland (Angela) Robertson, Stafford, VA; mother-in-law Rhonda Layne, Gruetli-Laager, TN, father-in-law Waymond Davis, Gruetli-Laager, TN, brother, Garland (C.J.) Robertson, II, Huntsville, AL; step brother, Brian Leung, Stafford, VA; step sister, Briana (Chris) Harris, Chesterfield, VA; sister-in-law Whitney (Devin) Comer, Gruetli-Laager, TN, brothers-in-law Justin and Cole Davis, Gruetli-Laager, TN. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Eric will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at New City Fellowship, 2424 E. 3rd Street, Chattanooga with Pastor Anthony Burton officiating.
Eric will be carried to Southern Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge, La., for a graveside service at 1 p.m. CST, Monday, March 21.
